Yes, scottish note in germany!

I saw last year a tartan fabric with typical colors for tartan but "light" colors. I mean the combination of the colors is not too hard.
This give me the idee to sew a dress from this fabric.

An easy A-Line dress

with extra instructions:

I lined the dress because the fabric is light
but You don't have to do it.
I haven't any lined fabric enough that's why I only lined the front and back pieces.
The sleeves are not lined.
I sewed also the fabric sleeves and lined sleeves together.

the sleeves are particulary!
There is only a dart in the middle! I see this method for the first time and it's really , really easy to put the sleeve to the other parts of dress!!!
And the result is cute.

I spend lot of time to fold the right and left  fabric parts together!
It's really dificult with checked pattern ...

I least, I didnt have the same pattern rigt and left from the zip ... :-(


But I used a big red zip to give a sportly touch!

I cut the dress in size 10.
The pattern from Burda is very easy.
I can recommend it. The instructions were easy to follow.

I think, I make an another dress with the pattern, but with an easier fabric :-) and perhaps with schorter sleeves for spring!

Red wine bottle

Since last thursday ( and till today!)

we have in  Cologne a lot of fun!

 Not only kids but adults too celebrate carnival!

"Kölle Alaaf!"  (the device of Cologne Carnival)






















This year I used for my garment my collection of corks!

                                             
                                                       and I used for my dress the McCall Pattern 5799



I found bottle labels online, I let these print on white fabric.
So I sewed both label on the dress.

and here is my hat with a lot of corks!!!!

The GDR Dress

This sewing- issue named PRAMO

is coming from the German Democratic Republic

from 1967!



I found in love with this dress and I must sew it!





Only too pieces :
one front and one back piece

but not so many instructions :-)

        and not very distinctives pattern!!! :-(






                              

                                  







But it wasn't too difficult to put the 2 pieces together :-)

I bought a heavy satin cotton fabric in an old rose color for a long time.
Perfect for this dress from the sixties.

I cut a front and back facing with the same fabric.
Neckline and armhole fit very good.

I used an unvisible zipper.







I made only one modification:

I must sew 2 darts at the back because it was too wide!
Ok, I have a hollow back that's why I must reduce the volume of the babric at the back.

The sixties necklines are often starting very high.
It looks very pretty but it's not so much confortable :-(

We are no longer accustomed with these necklines.

           




I 'm not yet tanned ...
but I'm on holiday next week :-)

Red hot !

As I saw the Vogue pattern 1194 and I fell immediately in love with this dress!

I had to sew it! :-)
 

 
We can find a lot of reviews for this dress!
I'm not the only one, who like and made it :-)

I have found a lightweight wool fabric with spandex in my favorite color : red!

Light but hot!

I cut a size smaller than normally because I didn't want to have too much fabric at the hips.
 

I omited the pockets (who needs extra fabric at the hips:-)

I didn't add in the elastic at the belt and  I didn't curve the band because it looked pregnant on me :-(  hmm ... not very flattering! 

I didn't make my usually FBA because there is enough fabric at the bust with the pleats.

I sewed up the V about 1" because it was a bit plunging









 




It is indeed a designer pattern ( from DKNY) but so easy and quick to make!


Fitted bodice and loose fitting gathered skirt make it very comfortable whilst looking quite elegant!

 

And you can wear this dress with flats, heels, or boots ...

 I'm wearing it for exemple with these ankle boots

A new dress ... for winter!

The weather is getting cold!
I needed a dress but a wool dress because I'm always cold! :-)




I bought this Vogue pattern last year: V8593
and I wanted to make the dress with a fabric who keeps a little warm.


I choose the dress version with 3/4 length sleeves.

 

I found last week a lightweight knit wool in a grey color, they didn't have a big choice an colors, but it's geat.

I cut the top in size 10 and at the waist and hips size 12, not to close fitting at the hips :-(

I usually make FBA but with the knit fabric I didn't need it.

This dress is very confortable!
I was making some dress pictures for the blogg but I couldn't take the dress off ... so confortable! :-)

The dress has back and elbows darts and an invisible zipper.

About the pleats... hmm... it's not the same pleats as the pattern :-(

I marked the pleats at the wrong side... so that the pleats are going to the wrong direction :-)

It realized it too late, but it doesn't matter, anyway it's ok!







                                                                                                                                                          

Vintage dress from Simplicity

I found last winter this pattern:

A vintage pattern from Simplicity 9080 from the 70s.

The dress with front tucks and back zipper has stand-up collar, set-in sleeves and optional button trim.

Version 1 I made has self fabric tie ends and mini lenght.

I imagined the mini length dress in a light grey color fabric...


and I found a light cotton grey fabric... but it was a rest fabric, I could become only 1,30 m (1 3/8 yard) so I couldn't make the dress with it :-(  ...   the dress V.1 for example required 1 7/8 yard!



Whatever ... I made it!


I used all centimetres from the fabric! :-)

I must make some alterations:



- I reduced the height from the collar, the sleevebands and the tie ends by about 2,5cm (1 inch). They are normally twice as much!! But it was fashionable in the 70's!!!


-   I wanted a fall dress so I didn't want to sew the short sleeves, but I didn't have enough fabric for the long sleeves, so I used the piece from long sleeves and cute the sleeves in 3/4 length. I sewed  the sleeve bands about 30,5 cm (12 inches)

 -I made FBA (2,5 cm - 1 inch) too.











I love the front pleats and the strict stand-up collar, and the combination with the tie ends give the dress a casual touch!



I love it! :-)

I used an invisible zipper.

The darts at the shoulders give the dress a very good fit!!

The fall is coming... but I have already the dress for it!

For my little sister again!

What can you sew for someone wenn you don't know her mesurements  and you want to surprise her?
Perhaps a A-Line dress?

I sew already the dress last year from the Patrones Magazine 272 from the italian Designer Missoni.

But I omitted the sleeves.

With this loose fitting A-Line dress it doesn't matter how think or thick the raise and hip are; the dress fits good!


That's why I could sew it this for my sister.
A birthday present!

in a cotton satin brown fabric with elasthan.

Very comfortable to wear!
And easy to sew: no zipper, no button!

And a little bit chic effect! :-)

Many challenges for a beginner!

I saw a fabric in a store and I must have it! What about sewing a dress with it?

Simple pattern with pleats over the waist and perfect for the exentric fabric !

OK for the pattern. Now have fun with associating the fabric drawings!
