A bizzare pattern for skirt

Wen I became the Patrones issue 285 I wanted at first to sew the top.

I found a white light cotton fabric for this but it 's too heavy for the front details  :-(

It doesn't matter, I like the skirt too!

I needed a brown skirt, so I decided to sew this skirt in brown : like the view with a satin cotton fabric with elasthan.

I find the details at the belt side with flaps so cute and the two pleats give the skirt a casual touch.

I finished the belt seam with bias tape for the first time.
I choose a satin bias in a light rose color.

It's not perfect sewed, but for the first time , it's OK! :-)
The skirt is fortunately easy to sew, because I can't read Spanish :-)
But I must made some alterations :
  • I graduate into a size 38 (US size 10) ; the issue propose the pattern in sizes 40, 44 and 48
  • I must take the belt in : one inch at both side, because it's was too wide!
  • and I made the finished detail with bias tape at the belt seam.

But the result looks so disappointing !!

On the side view the skirt looks like normal, but on the front view you can't see the both flaps at the belt. They are too small!
I checked the pattern over again. Perhaps I cut the flaps wrong?
No, the flaps are the same whatever the skirt size.
Hum... but I made the skirt in size 38...
What size is the model skirt??? We can see on the issue view the both flaps!

I would have made the flaps longer, but I didn't seen this, only when I tried the skirt.
I will wear the skirt but it's not so cute than I thought it would be :-(

For my little sister

Christmas 2008

We are always looking for cute and extrordinary presents for family for Chrismas.

And for my sister I have found it: a self maded cute cape with a clutch!
I didn't have to know exactly her dimensions ; bust and waist , I only know she's wearing clothes size 10.
It's enough! :-)

I found in the spanish magazine Patrones N°272 (my favorite issue) a very simple pattern for a nice cape from COS

I can't read spanish but I could understand how I have to put the pieces together. They aren't many pieces!

I didn't make a lot of views for this cape, but I have this one :

I found a good wool fabric from an old collection frm Windsor: grey fischbone wool and in orange and grey plaid. Difficult to describe it :-(

The funky orange buttons make the cape younger.

What a bummer , I didn't make any view from the lining: it's in a intense orange color!

And for the clutch I used the Vogue pattern N°5827

I could read in many reviews by Pattern Reviews that the instructions are very easy to follow... but I didn't understand all of them; particullary with the zipper...???

Anyway I made the clutch with my own ideas :-)

I had to coincide the orange lines from the design but the result is ok!

I don't know if the zipper is at the wrong or good place ... however it's a cute clutch.

And we can see the orange lining :-)

My sister was very happy about the presents!

Why not trying new pattern compagny?

Late summer 2008

Burda pattern were good for me as a beginner sewer but I wanted to try something new.

Vogue or McCall's or Butterick pattern?

Ok for this jacket : McCall's N°5711

I decided to take sewing classrooms and made the jacket B.

A loose fitting lined double-breasted jacket with collar and 3/4 sleeves.

The sleeves start lower as usually. I didn't sew that. But it's ok.

I love the details on the sleeves and back. I love the fabric too: light wool fabric in a violet color. Perfect for fall weather! :-)

Many challenges for a beginner!

I saw a fabric in a store and I must have it! What about sewing a dress with it?
Why not.
Why not the lined dress from Burda (Download N°137)

Simple pattern with pleats over the waist and perfect for the exentric fabric !

OK for the pattern. Now have fun with associating the fabric drawings!

The result:

I love it! Even if I can't wear it so many times because it's a eye-catching fabric.

I call this dress : My 70's wallpaper dress :-)

I made it on June 2008!
